Overview of Bineswar Brahma Engineering College (BBEC)

In the year 2006, the Govt. of Assam declared that an Engineering College would be set up at Kokrajhar. Accordingly, after two years of the decision,  the foundation stone of the college was laid by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on 16th August 2008 at Chandrapara, a village around 7 km away from Kokrajhar town. The college was named after Bineswar Brahma i.e. Bineswar Brahma Engineering College (BBEC).

Bineswar Brahma was an eminent member of the Bodo Community. He was a very active social worker who had to sacrifice his life for the development of the Bodo community. He is known as “Subungthini Thandwi” among Bodos. So, the decision was made among intellectuals & this Engineering College was named after him.

Prof. Palash Jyoti Hazarika was the first pro tem principal of the college and the college started functioning from the academic session 2010-11 with two branches 1. Chemical & Process Control Engineering 2. Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering. With intake capacity 60 in each branch, the two branches upgrade in the academic session 2013-14 and another two more branches in the academic session 2018-19 as:

    1. Chemical Engineering.
    2. Electrical Engineering
    3. Civil Engineering
    4. Mechanical Engineering

In the year 2011, the college was having a newly appointed Principal. The new Principal, Dr. Kamal Brahma, took his charges on October 10, 2011.
